Default can u techies check this laptop out pls?

Hi! I'm thinking of buying a new laptop and I bring my laptop around alot so i'm thinking of buying those lightweight ones like 5.5lbs weight. Will this laptop still be ok for gaming like GW? this comes preinstalled w/ vista so I'm kinda worried at what it might do to performance. How would it do w/ games like Quake4/newer games?

i really don't know where else to ask this question so sorry

Looks fine besides the crappy intel mobile graphics. It should run guild wars fairly smoothly on low graphics, but don't expect to play quake 4 or any other newer games.

Not a bad price for a 3GB ram/c2d processor laptop either (especially since sony usually charges too much )

If you want to play games, I'd suggest looking for a laptop with an actual graphics card in it, as opposed to a GPU that steals system memory like that setup.

Yep. Don't expect to play much of anything very well, or at all, with intel graphics. You could probly find an all-around better laptop for around the same price at another source like newegg.

On another note: i wouldn't really call quake 4 "new". or any doom 3 engine powered game in general.

Mmm even with the Intel graphics card you should be able to run Guild Wars on HIGH settings with at least 30 FPS, I mean my laptop only has an intel graphics card and it's not as good as the one in that but I can play GW on high at a constant 25FPS which is more than my old computer ran it with settings on low xD

Not sure about any of the other games though.

Kazi Saki, you might want to consider these two Gateway laptops for affordable gaming option:

P-6831FX - $1200
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1195599780039

P-6860FX - $1350
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.... roductdetail

Both models are similar. P-6860FX is updated version with slightly faster CPU, more RAM/Memory and HDD. Screen resolution isn't great for either, but price affordability has to come from somewhere. Both have the GF 8800M GTS GPU chip, which should play all current games maxed with good framerate excluding Crysis. See review from Anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3273 Also both models can be upgraded to the latest Socket P CPUs (I think T9300), might disqualify any warranty.

You pay quite a bit just to have the name Sony on the lid - go elsewhere.

Heh, I'd prefer something that could run GW natively, tbh ^^

Needs more Microsoft and less hype.

Yeah and with no disk drive you'd need to download GW allover again.

Thankyou sony for root kit I will never buy any of your products again.

I suggest:HP Compaq 8510p (RM267UT#ABA) Intel Core 2 Duo T7500(2.20GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 2GB Memory 160GB HDD DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 NoteBook - Retail found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834147528

or get a lil cheaper 1 of this page up to you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tel+Core+2+Duo

Hp have beautiful monitors/screens its a lil more and its an HP which I am not super fond of a prebuilt anything, but this is a real nice system.

Ah.... but their new CEO is a cool guy, and they are really doing a great service by allowing open development on their new products (particularly the PSP and PS3, PS3 more of note) They have done a real turnaround, not using proprietary bullshit in their products, at least not to any real extent.

Although Root Kit was a terrible thing, and although it was a huge blunder, I think you can find it to forgive them and give them a second chance. They are being really innovative right now. I mean, Little Big Planet and HOME look amazing, and really are focused on communal gaming. Their new CEO is making Sony into the hip and now company it should have been, rather than the elitist snobs who try and sell overpriced bull with inferior quality, yet still slap an A+ rating on their crap. BOSE is notorious for doing that! They make some of the crappiest audio systems, and their products are a joke among real audiophiles or educated buyers. BOSE tries to market their crappy, small, inferior speakers to be superior sounding to their competition (yeh, perhaps if they are competing against Yamaha and Sony...), and they slap HUGE pricetags on stuff. Klipsch, Infinity, and Vienna put them to shame... JBL as well. BOSE are posers, and their products are plastic crap. I would rather have an ebola victim vomit into my eyes then listen to anything on their crappy speakers.

Sony has done a full 180 from where they were 3-4 years ago. They are a new company, so I think you should give them a new chance.

@The OP

Get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115466

Or this if you have a little higher budget:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220334

Personally, I recommend the 2nd one. Yes you lose some RAM, but you can always upgrade that yourself. The video card is tops, and the SCREEN is HIGH REZ. The screen is what sells it for me! Don't worry about lightweight. Unless you are like some of my friends and travel to foreign countries all the time, and haul the laptop on planes and basically it is your 2nd wife, you don't need some lightweight POS. If you are planning on GW2, you are a gamer, get a gaming grade notebook. Under 10lbs is light enough. 5.5 is taking a HUGE PERFORMANCE HIT, unless you are willing to pay big big bucks for the high end elite laptops. The G2 from ASUS (2nd one I linked you to) is an amazing notebook. I actually have 2 friends who have one, and they love it.

They have... their prices are much better then they were 2 years ago. Their notebooks might be a bit pricey, but that is mainly because of their curb appeal (looks), just like Apple's markup (but Apple has insane quality). Apple and Sony are probably the prettiest looking notebooks around (I think we can all agree at least on that, just looks mind you)

Just as an example, their TVs have the best LCD technology on the market, and many of the Samsung displays use parts of Sony's display technology.

Here you find a beautiful Samsung:
http://shop3.frys.com/product/5541280

Sale price = $1,556.88

Now you see this gorgeous Sony, same size, slightly better picture in almost every case, and a little more refined look:
http://shop3.frys.com/product/534955...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Price (not on sale) = 2,099

That is less than a 600 dollar price difference, and the XBR4 has a guaranteed better picture then the Samsung, faster processor, better firmware support and home theater ability, and in most peoples' opinion, a better all around external look (the paneling, encasement, details, etc) And the Sony is SOLD OUT and not on sale. So, no, Sony doesn't have the elitist price markup they used to have. Personally? I own 3 Samsung LCDs in my home, a gorgeous 70" in the home theater room, a great 40" in the living room, and my 24" baby connected to my PC. So yeh, I <3 Samsung, but Sony is tops in LCDs.

wow....so many choices now

the asus, hp, and especially that gateway notebook looks really nice!
I guess it'll take me awhile to decide and I like those three brands + acer (but no one suggested an acer laptop). gw community rocks and thanx for the very nice feedback!

You are most welcome.

But, looking back on all the suggestions, I really want to push this one....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220334

Yes, it is heavier, yes you might not know of ASUS (they make some of the best notebooks, very popular in Europe vs the US), but that Laptop has an amazing graphics card, a great processor, nice big HDD, plenty of RAM, and to top it all off, an full HD display that can play GW or any other game at high rez. It will be able to handle GW2 with NO ISSUE. Get that one man, you won't be disappointed, trust me.... Oh and the price on it, it absolutely hands down amazing. Honestly, I don't know how ASUS makes money on some of their offerings, and I don't know how Newegg gets the prices even lower... I would swear they were losing money on the G2 from ASUS at that price... oh well, your benefit, lol.

For those of you who are too lazy to go to my link... Here are the main reasons I chose that lappy.

CPU Type Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2G
Screen 17" WUXGA
Memory Size 2GB DDR2
Hard Disk 250GB

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Video Memory 256MB GDDR3 VRAM

Screen Size 17.0"
Wide Screen Support Yes
Display Type Wide UXGA
Resolution 1920 x 1200

Note the bolded features, for that extra, ooooh, and ahhh.

Price? Oh... not nearly as much as that HP above, which is a decent notebook but really overpriced...

$1,169.99 for this lovely number. BUY IT.

pretty? lol pretty? rajah pretty will never sell me. I would use an old Toughbook if the components were all solid state and it was bleeding edge. But that is just me. pretty normally = very breakable.

People need to learn that it is not what is on the outside, but what is on the inside is what matters. This applies to more than just computers.

However, you still agree that my choice in laptops is uncanny and would highly recommend he buy that ASUS G2 laptop in the blink of an eye, because of its great resolution, amazing graphics card, and insane price, RIGHT?

BTW, things can be ascetically pleasing and still be top performing. Look at the PS3 versus the XBX360. The PS3 is amazing looking, and it outperforms the 360 (I swear to god, if anyone dares to argue that the crappy Xenon CPU can outperform a Cell CPU, I will rip your into pieces, chew you up, and spit you out, then have maggots devour your rotting corpse )
